LCM 1: The First of Semester Two : By KAI
This semester Kai will be reporting for each of the LCMs, here is his first post:
Welcome back fellow AIESECers, hope you had fun over the midyear winter holidays whether you attended the MelCon or returned to your home country or just hibernated through it. From now on, we’ll be posting on the blog about the stuff we did at LCM so people who didn’t go will know what’s happening (and regret on missing out on all the fun the people who came had)
Anyways, I have to say that the first LCM back was a great success and seeing so many people at LCM can’t make us LXS people any happier. HAH! Another acronym for you people who didn’t attend LCM. This semester, the Learning portfolio will be called LXS to incorporate eXchange Servicing as well. Anyways, to those who didn’t attend national conference (like me ), we got to watch a video/slideshow Tristan made showcasing all the fun stuff they did at conference (and of course the inspiring seminars and talks they attended).
Onto more serious matters, I will just summarize the basic things that came out of the portfolio updates. Simon from OGX has set a target of 20 EP’s for the Melbourne LC out of the 100 EP’s for the national target we have. Also, there’s lots of expression of interest at the stalls (about 100+) and there’s lecture bashing coming up if anyone’s interested. Joyce, our newly appointed ICX director, has a mission called the “ICX revival”, which has the aim of raising 5 TN’s and realising one with a new system that is, as Joyce likes to put it, “smooth and tight” (weird reaction by the audience). Melissa from UR reported that Melbourne Abroad will post up a ACYLP hyperlink on their website. Also, she’ll be talking to lecturers about lecture bashing so if anyone’s got a subject they think would have students who are interested in going on exchange with AIESEC let Mel know. Neil from PBox talked a bit about entrepreneurship in Asia Pacific and also to inform us that there’ll be a Shell event on the 10th of August on corporate social responsibility, and currently there’s 50 spots for students (paid for by Shell I think).
Then, Heidi (our lovely LCP) had her 5 minutes of LCP time (think she took a little longer than that :P) to talk about everyone’s experience in AIESEC so far, what’ve you’ve learned, how different you are from before you joined AIESEC and did you achieve what you wanted to achieve by joining AIESEC. After that, Tristan talked on the topic of other LC’s from around Australia, which is AIESEC NSW this week. Their LC currently has 20 members and hopes to become a project in January and return at the Western Australia National Conference, WANCon (which sounds a lot like what you guys are thinking of right now).
After that, came the most IMPORTANT part of the LCM, the one that makes you happy, gets your adrenaline pumping and your heart beating faster, DANCING!! We got Lucy, our MCP of AIESEC Australia to lead us in dancing to the “Yatta” song. Sorry for the audio which was too soft, will get that sorted out next week.
Sabs, our PD director, gave a bit of insight on the structure of PD, which basically has the HR(Veronica), OGX(Simon) and LXS(Tristan) portfolios with their respective directors in brackets, what are our tasks. Also, booths will be set up everyday from 12-2pm so if anyone is free during that time, come on down to the booths and help or just for moral support.
The IS team (which consist of only Nirm and Isaac :P) reported that the aiesec.net forums are all cleaned up and old post deleted after countless hours of hard labour and sweat. So, thank them by posting up more and more stuff on .net .
The HR portfolio has come up with a “Buddy System” with the aims of increasing participation and accountability of members, foster inter-portfolio bonding and form a stronger bonded LC. Also, other events coming up are Go Kart and Trivia night by RMIT. Since Go Kart already took place before I wrote this post, look out for a post for that. Trivia night is happening 8th August at Puggs Mahone on Elgin St, cost $5 to cover the food and everyone is welcome to come on down. Then came the Sledging part by Shu Wen and Yi Xin, which enlightened anyone who didn’t go to MelCon and a bit of a laugh for those who did about the people who “got it on”. While I’m surprised that Mel was one of the subjects, why am I not surprised to see Daniel one of them too? Anyway fun stuff and we hope to see more next week.
After LCM meeting, we went over to Papa Gino’s for dinner, but apparently Papa can’t make enough pizzas for us (actually it was just full). So we had to settle for Il Gambero next door, which gave us the whole 2nd floor for about 20+ of us. Well, that’s all the updates for the LCM, do try to make it for the LCM’s this semester cause it’s gonna be awesome and we the LXS team’s got lots of great stuff and activities lined up. Till next time.
